The Temple

Goddess: Silthia
Alignment: Court of the Eternal Wheel

"Come in, enjoy the pleasures that lie inside. We are the priests and priestesses of The Temple, and we bid you welcome. No, do not leave, relax. Perhaps you want a glass of wine, maybe you would like to sip of a more intoxicating liquor. We have anything you could possibly desire; all we ask for is your devotion..."

The Temple is devoted to the pursuit of pleasure in all its forms, regardless of consequences. Its followers are charged with the eternal task of passing on this pleasure to everyone, and in doing so to increase Silthia's following. An arduous task indeed!

The Temple has a fairly rigid structure. The lowliest of its priests are compelled to follow their superiors' orders, with each rank becoming more important, and being able to command more underlings. At the very top of the structure is a high priestess, who is very rarely seen, and always wears a mask to conceal her identity when she is. She controls six priests and priestesses, and below that each level of the pyramid is three times the size of the one above.

Promotion in The Temple comes through manipulation and in dealing. A superior may promote or demote underlings as they see fit, and in doing so attempts to maintain their own position. In this structure, an ambitious priest may rise quickly, and fall even faster. This structure promotes a feeling of paranoia throughout the religion, and it is deserved. An underling's superior has the right to everything over that underling, including the underling's life. Of course, if a superior takes a life unnecessarily, that superior may find their own life in danger...
