Crane & Lady Ayshena
Alaric le Merchant's niece had gone missing, after setting off to visit her grandmother in a village to the south of Outpost, so he offered a reward for her safe return. Two adventurers took him up on his offer and travelled to the village, where they discovered that almost all the local children had gone missing over the last six weeks. Some of the other villagers offered them all the marrows and cabbages they had to find the other missing children as well, but the adventurers weren't interested.
They set off for the nearby forest, where they came upon some goblyns running off with a young baby - they killed the goblyns and took the baby with them. There followed an encounter with some gnomes, which left Lady Ayshena battered and unconscious until she was fed part of an oddly luminescent forest mushroom that was growing nearby - more mushrooms were taken along for later. Fighting their way past moving, talking trees, vicious crows and large cats with glowing violet eyes, they came to a campfire, where three strange people spoke cryptic nonsense at them, fetched milk for the baby, and kept offering them food and trying to make strange bargains.
After the three left, Lady Ayshena and Crane slept by the fire for the night, and in the morning the baby turned into a crow and flew off. Then Lady Ayshena started hallucinating nightmares which she believed attacked her and stole all her magick, much to Crane's bewilderment. Eventually they went away, and some more gnomes and another goblyn were fought.
Soon afterwards, two frail humanoid creatures with gauzy wings were found trying to drag off a confused young child - Lady Ayshena told them that she was a famous childminder, and convinced them to give her the child in return for an invitation to visit her house in Outpost and learn how to bring up children properly, which the two creatures seemed unduly pleased with.
The two adventurers took the child to a nearby village, where it was always Tuesday. The child's father, a silversmith, was overjoyed to have his son back, and rewarded them with some silver jewellery and a fine set of silver spoons, before returning to work on the silver sword he was making. Tea was drunk and fairy cakes were eaten, and the villagers told of the two towers where two rival Lords lived. So the two adventurers set off through the mines that led to the tower of the Lord of Light and Earth and Fire, whom the villagers had said was probably the one responsible for taking the children.
At first the mines were full of humans and gnomes mining gold and silver for the Lord, but then the water rushed in and the two adventurers were attacked by shades and undines, who were driven off with the help of one of the gnomish miners. Fortunately, it was at this point that Lady Ayshena recovered the magick she had thought the nightmare hallucinations had taken. Leaving the mines, the adventurers climbed some stairs to a room containing two large mirrors, one of which reflected only Crane, and the other of which reflected only Lady Ayshena. After some experimentation, the reflections stepped out of the mirrors and attacked, and once they were slain, the mirrors shattered.
Behind the mirrors were more stairs, leading up to the Lord's throne room. The adventurers negotiated with the Lord for a while, and also spoke to Alaric's niece, who said that she was happy staying with the Lord. They were eventually persuaded to leave the girl with the Lord and return to Outpost claiming to have been unable to find her, in return for a number of bags of gold each.
So they returned to the forest, where they met two guides, and after meeting the guides' challenge and forcing them to yield in honourable combat the two adventurers were led back out of the forest. But one guide took Lady Ayshena's ability to cry in payment for her freedom, and the other guide took Crane's ability to laugh, and the next morning their bags of færie gold were filled with nothing but twigs and leaves!
