Dr Fuggle's Guide to Nocturne

Welcome, stranger. I am Dr. Fuggle, a member of the Outpost Lorewarden's and Scout's Guilds. I have been researching information on the lands and inhabitants of Nocturne for some time now; here is the published result. It is, however, an ongoing piece of research, so if you have anything to add it would be most welcome. I have a small fund from the Aldermen which I am at liberty to dispense, and so any information will be well received.

Nocturne: An Overview

Nocturne is a most strange region, where the Element of Light is all but banished. Neither the sun nor the moon light this region, not even the stars penetrate the eternal night. There are many tales as to how it came about, but I would not like to speculate on their veracity, or rather their lack of veracity. Suffice to say that they are usually more suited to the public house than to proper scientific literature.

The lack of light is not the only difficulty in studying Nocturne. The realm contains many exotic and usually hostile beasts, and so an armed guard has been essential throughout my investigations. I have attempted to record and list these beasts where possible.

Among other difficulties I have encountered, perhaps the most important is the wide variety of races and cultures which inhabit the region. The variability of Outpost's relations with these creatures has made my work in some cases very pleasant, and in many others extremely difficult. There was one occasion where I spent some considerable amount of time and money attempting to reach a tribe of night-goblins, only to find that they had already been raided by my friends of the Guardian's Guild and were actively hostile towards me. On another occasion I found myself welcomed with open arms by a group of Liasha who had recently been saved from an uncontrolled Light Elemental.

It is bearing this in mind that the reader should examine the material that I present to him. Some of the accounts and sources may be biased, while others may be simply wrong.
